SUPERVISION AND MENTORING AAMFT CANDIDATES

Supervision for Counseling Psychology Trainees/Interns/Candidates/Associates/Groups

I supervise because I have a passion for teaching and nurturing others into becoming the most authentic version of themselves as therapists, counselors and healers. This implies that I am not interested in creating clones! Because I am so serious about being an excellent and creditable Supervisor, I completed my certification to become an AAMFT (American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists) Approved Supervisor.

My supervisory style is direct though empathic, reliable, professional, encouraging and compassionate. I aim to create a joyful, safe learning space while including humor, authenticity and presence. Using a Somatic, Transpersonal and Systems framework, I encourage my trainees/interns/associates to find and follow their intuition balanced with learning  AAMFT core competencies, logic, theory, legal and ethical sense. I appreciate using audio recordings and video of trainee/intern work when available. I am detailed and conscious of following best practices for progress and process notes and HIPAA compliant records.

Special resources I offer:
In former careers, I held positions in more traditionally corporate settings such as an Associate Creative Director, Art Director, Marketing Consultant and Journalist which allows me to offer a certain professionalism, advertising and marketing savvy to my trainees/interns. As a yoga instructor, practitioner, Unity Sunday school teacher and long time meditator, I offer teaching, Somatic awareness and mindfulness including transpersonal and spiritual concepts to my work and relationships.

MENTORSHIP FOR AAMFT SUPERVISOR CANDIDATES

My approach to Mentoring is similar to what is described above with the same fee structure and less hand holding. Supervision mentoring is a service provided by a current AAMFT Approved Supervisor & Clinical Fellow to a supervisor candidate as part of the training requirements for the Approved Supervisor designation. This has also been referred to as supervision of supervision. The major focus in supervision mentoring is on the development of the supervisor candidate’s supervisory skills as opposed to a primary focus on trainees’ client situations. This experience should include live or recorded supervision sessions, and may include no more than three supervisor candidates per session if done in a group. Mentoring may occur via real-time technology-assisted means, like video, that are congruent with AAMFT ethics.
