While talk therapy is a component of somatic psychotherapy, the latter goes even deeper. Working from my specialized training as a Marriage & Family Therapist, as well as in somatic psychology education and somatic experiencing, intuition, and personal journey, I work with adults and couples to increase mental health, self-awareness, and mindfulness. In my sessions, I assist people to go inward physically, behaviorally, bodily, and transpersonally. This includes exploring the layers of lightness and darkness that we all experience as humans. Healing also happens in the therapeutic alliance we create, therefore building a trusting connection with my clients based on mutual respect is important to me. Together we explore change from the soma (body) to the mind, not just the mind to the body. And from this awareness, together we build new skills to pave a way forward that feels better from all dimensions, mentally and physically.
Individual clients come when they want a somatic therapy approach instead of, or sometimes in addition to, their current talk therapy. I have found this work to be useful to those individuals who feel overwhelmed by emotions, feel anxious in the world or experience unexplained physical syndromes. Some clients have had exceptional human or transpersonal experiences during journey work and need support integrating this into daily life. Many of my clients have a history of complex trauma, are confused by relationships, or struggle to set boundaries and communicate their truth. While some clients benefit from a couple months of sessions to get unstuck, others require several months of work to rewrite the narratives and repair maladaptive patterns in their lives. Together we chart a course forward and continue to assess progress along the way.
Using somatic psychotherapy with couples adds another dimension for those clients willing to go deeper to the core of their dynamic, attachment and abandonment issues, explore physical sensations and be vulnerable in order to get to a more connected place. I have found work as a somatic psychotherapist to be helpful to those couples considering commitment, who have intimacy issues or want to learn conflict resolution skills. Others seek me out wanting support to change the configuration of their relationship, build trust after infidelity or to consciously separate and divorce.
I am genuinely honored to do this work with those who feel called to experience lasting change. I look forward to an opportunity to work with you.
